PURPOSE: This study analyzes the relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, vaginal microecology, and cervical lesions to provide a basis for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer (CC) in the Xinjiang region. METHODS: Real-time quantitative PCR was used for HPV genotyping and viral load. The Gram staining and dry biochemical enzyme kit were utilized to diagnose vaginal secretions. The χ2 test and Logistic regression analysis were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The HPV infection rate among women in the Xinjiang region was 30.29%, of which the single HPV infection accounts for 77%. HPV16 and HPV52 were the main infection types. There was significant differences in the HPV infection rate and infection types among the Han, Uighur, Hui, and Kazakh ethnic groups. The viral load of HPV16 and HPV52 increases with the upgrade of cervical lesions. There were significant differences in vaginal microecology evaluation indicators H2O2, SNA, LE, GUS, trichomonas, clue cells, and lactobacilli among different ethnic groups. HPV negative patients with varying grades of cervical lesions exhibit a notable variance in H2O2 and LE, which is statistically significant. Single HPV infection and high viral load HPV significantly increase the risk of CC. CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that HPV infection and vaginal microecology differ among ethnic groups, which have a strong correlation with the progression of CC, offering guidance on CC screening and interventions in the Xinjiang area.

Superbug infections and transmission have become major challenges in the contemporary medical field. The development of novel antibacterial strategies to efficiently treat bacterial infections and conquer the problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is extremely important. In this paper, a bimetallic CuCo-doped nitrogen-carbon nanozyme-functionalized hydrogel (CuCo/NC-HG) has been successfully constructed. It exhibits photoresponsive-enhanced enzymatic effects under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation (808 nm) with strong peroxidase (POD)-like and oxidase (OXD)-like activities. Upon NIR irradiation, CuCo/NC-HG possesses photodynamic activity for producing singlet oxygen(1O2), and it also has a high photothermal conversion effect, which not only facilitates the elimination of bacteria but also improves the efficiency of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and accelerates the consumption of GSH. CuCo/NC-HG shows a lower hemolytic rate and better cytocompatibility than CuCo/NC and possesses a positive charge and macroporous skeleton for restricting negatively charged bacteria in the range of ROS destruction, strengthening the antibacterial efficiency. Comparatively, CuCo/NC and CuCo/NC-HG have stronger bactericidal ability against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and ampicillin-resistant Escherichia coli (AmprE. coli) through destroying the cell membranes with a negligible occurrence of AMR. More importantly, CuCo/NC-HG plus NIR irradiation can exhibit satisfactory bactericidal performance in the absence of H2O2, avoiding the toxicity from high-concentration H2O2. In vivo evaluation has been conducted using a mouse wound infection model and histological analyses, and the results show that CuCo/NC-HG upon NIR irradiation can efficiently suppress bacterial infections and promote wound healing, without causing inflammation and tissue adhesions.

In this work, positively charged N-carbazoleacetic acid decorated CuxO nanoparticles (CuxO-CAA NPs) as novel biocompatible nanozymes have been successfully prepared through a one-step hydrothermal method. CuxO-CAA can serve as a self-cascading platform through effective GSH-OXD-like and POD-like activities, and the former can induce continuous generation of H2O2 through the catalytic oxidation of overexpressed GSH in the bacterial infection microenvironment, which in turn acts as a substrate for the latter to yield ˙OH via Fenton-like reaction, without introducing exogenous H2O2. Upon NIR irradiation, CuxO-CAA NPs possess a high photothermal conversion effect, which can further improve the enzymatic activity for increasing the production rate of H2O2 and ˙OH. Besides, the photodynamic performance of CuxO-CAA NPs can produce 1O2. The generated ROS and hyperthermia have synergetic effects on bacterial mortality. More importantly, CuxO-CAA NPs are more stable and biosafe than Cu2O, and can generate electrostatic adsorption with negatively charged bacterial cell membranes and accelerate bacterial death. Antibacterial results demonstrate that CuxO-CAA NPs are lethal against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and ampicillin-resistant Escherichia coli (AREC) through destroying the bacterial membrane and disrupting the bacterial biofilm formation. MRSA-infected animal wound models show that CuxO-CAA NPs can efficiently promote wound healing without causing toxicity to the organism.

BACKGROUND: Cellular senescence is associated with a dysregulated inflammatory response, which is an important driver of the development of liver fibrosis (LF). This study aimed to investigate the effect of cellular senescence on LF and identify potential key biomarkers through bioinformatics analysis combined with validation experiments in vivo and in vitro. METHODS: The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and GeneCards database were used to download the LF dataset and the aging-related gene set, respectively. Functional enrichment analysis of differential genes was then performed using GO and KEGG. Hub genes were further screened using Cytoscape's cytoHubba. Diagnostic values for hub genes were evaluated with a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Next, CIBERSORTx was used to estimate immune cell types and ratios. Finally, in vivo and in vitro experiments validated the results of the bioinformatics analysis. Moreover, molecular docking was used to simulate drug-gene interactions. RESULTS: A total of 44 aging-related differentially expressed genes (AgDEGs) were identified, and enrichment analysis showed that these genes were mainly enriched in inflammatory and immune responses. PPI network analysis identified 6 hub AgDEGs (STAT3, TNF, MMP9, CD44, TGFB1, and TIMP1), and ROC analysis showed that they all have good diagnostic value. Immune infiltration suggested that hub AgDEGs were significantly associated with M1 macrophages or other immune cells. Notably, STAT3 was positively correlated with α-SMA, COL1A1, IL-6 and IL-1ß, and was mainly expressed in hepatocytes (HCs). Validation experiments showed that STAT3 expression was upregulated and cellular senescence was increased in LF mice. A co-culture system of HCs and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) further revealed that inhibiting STAT3 reduced HCs senescence and suppressed HSCs activation. In addition, molecular docking revealed that STAT3 was a potential drug therapy target. CONCLUSIONS: STAT3 may be involved in HCs senescence and promote HSCs activation, which in turn leads to the development of LF. Our findings suggest that STAT3 could be a potential biomarker for LF.

In this work, we successfully constructed Mn-coordinated nitrogen-carbon nanoparticles (Mn-N-C NPs) exhibiting multienzyme-like activities. In a bacterial infectious microenvironment, the POD-like and OXD-like activities of Mn-N-C NPs could synergistically trigger the generation of ROS (˙OH and O2˙-), causing oxidative damage to the bacterial cell membrane for killing bacteria. Alternatively, in neutral or weak alkaline normal tissues, the excessive O2˙- could be converted into O2 and H2O2via the SOD-like ability of Mn-N-C NPs, and subsequently their CAT-like activity catalyzed excess H2O2 into H2O and O2 for protecting normal cells through the antioxidant defense. Mn-N-C NPs also possessed a good NIR-photothermal performance, which could enhance their POD-like and OXD-like activities. Furthermore, Mn-N-C NPs could facilitate the GSH oxidation process and disrupt the intrinsic balance in the bacterial protection microenvironment with the assistance of H2O2, which is beneficial for rapid bacterial death. Undoubtedly, the Mn-N-C NPs + H2O2 system showed the highest antibacterial activity when irradiated with an 808 nm laser, destroying the bacterial membrane and causing the efflux of proteins. Moreover, the Mn-N-C NPs + H2O2 system was immune to the development of bacterial resistance and could efficiently disrupt the formation of a bacterial biofilm with negligible cytotoxicity and low hemolysis ratio. Finally, Mn-N-C NPs exhibited an excellent antibacterial performance in vivo and could accelerate wound healing without cellular inflammation production. Therefore, due to their significant therapeutic effects, Mn-N-C NPs show great potential in fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the relationship between the body composition of children aged 3-5 years and breastfeeding status and duration. Methods: The study was conducted using data from the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for children 0-17 years of age in China (CNHSC), a nationwide cross-sectional study. Breastfeeding information and potential confounders were collected using standardized questionnaires administered through face-to-face interviews. The body composition of preschool children was measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis. A multivariate linear regression model was used to assess the relationship between breastfeeding duration and body composition after adjusting for potential confounders. Results: In total, 2,008 participants were included in the study. Of these, 89.2% were ever breastfed and the median duration of breastfeeding was 12 months (IQR 7-15 months). Among children aged 3 years, the height-for-age Z-score (HAZ) for the ever breastfed group was lower than that for never breastfed group (0.12 vs. 0.42, P = 0.043). In addition, the weight-for-age Z-score (WAZ) of the ever breastfed group was lower than that of the never breastfed group (0.31 vs. 0.65, P = 0.026), and the WAZ was lower in children aged 4 years who breastfed between 12 and 23 months than in those who never breastfed. Compared to the formula-fed children, the fat-free mass of breastfed infants was higher for children aged 3 years (12.84 kg vs. 12.52 kg, P = 0.015) and lower for those aged 4 years (14.31 kg vs. 14.64 kg, P = 0.048), but no difference was detected for children aged 5 years (16.40 kg vs. 16.42 kg, P = 0.910) after adjusting for potential confounders. No significant difference was detected in the weight-for-height Z-score (WHZ), body mass index (BMI)-for-age Z-score (BAZ), fat-free mass index, and body fat indicators in the ever breastfed and never breastfed groups and among various breastfeeding duration groups for children aged 3-5 years. Conclusion: No obvious associations were detected between breastfeeding duration, BMI, and fat mass indicators. Future prospective studies should explore the relationship between breastfeeding status and fat-free mass.

Background: Because lung cancer is the main cause of cancer deaths and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) accounts for more than 40% of all lung malignancies, it is essential to develop clinically useful biomarkers for the disease. The aim of this investigation is to assess the potential application of tubulin alpha-1b (TUBA1B) as a biomarker for diagnosing and monitoring the outcome of LUAD. Methods: The clinical data of the LUAD patients was retrospectively analyzed. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis of a tissue microarray containing 90 LUAD cases was implemented to examine the expression of TUBA1B. The protein and mRNA levels of TUBA1B in serum were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis respectively. UALCAN was employed to confirm the expression levels and survival probability of TUBA1B in LUAD patients. Results: Compared to adjacent non-cancerous tissues in the microarray, the expression of TUBA1B in LUAD tissues was much higher. The expression of TUBA1B in LUAD was statistically correlated with lymph node status (P = .031). Moreover, patients with higher TUBA1B expression had shorter overall survival (P < .0001). Furthermore, cox multi-factor analysis also suggested that TUBA1B may be an independent predictor for LUAD prognosis (P = .030). The results of TCGA data analysis by UALCAN were consistent with the microarray results, except for that TUBA1B was also significantly correlated with clinical tumor stages. Protein levels of TUBA1B in serum were obviously elevated in LUAD patients than control (P < .0001), and the area under the ROC curve was 0.99. TUBA1B also showed better sensitivity of 92.9% for LUAD than common clinical biomarkers. Conclusion: TUBA1B may be a non-invasive prognostic and diagnostic biomarker for LUAD patients.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the possible causes of abnormal hemoglobin electrophoresis results. METHODS: The hemoglobin electrophoresis results of 5 696 patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College from September 2018 to July 2021 were collected, and the abnormal results and clinical significance were analyzed. RESULTS: The results of 486 patients (accounting for 8.53%) were abnormal, of which 300 cases had increased HbA2, 135 cases had decreased HbA2, 44 cases had increased F alone, and 7 cases had abnormal hemoglobin bands. Among the 486 patients, 246 patients were thalassemia gene positive (the positive rate was 50.62%), including 29 cases of α thalassemia, 208 cases of ß thalassemia and 9 cases of αß thalassemia. Among the patients with elevated HbA2, 68.67% were detected ß thalassemia, 3.00% αß thalassemia, 9.33% were suspected to be caused by macrocytosis, 6.33% by thyroid dysfunction, and 12.67% by uncertainty of the method. Among the patients with reduced HbA2, 21.48% were detected α thalassemia, 60.00% iron deficiency anemia, 8.15% were suspected to be caused by thyroid dysfunction, and 10.37% by uncertainty of the method. Among the patients with elevated F alone, the results of thalassemia gene detection were negative, 40.91% of them were suspected to be caused by macrocytosis, 27.27% by hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin, 29.55% by special physiological condition of pregnant women, and 2.27% by hyperthyroidism. Abnormal hemoglobin bands were detected in 7 patients, including 4 cases of hemoglobin D, 2 cases of hemoglobin E, and 1 case of hemoglobin J. CONCLUSION: Thalassemia, iron deficiency anemia, macrocytosis such as megaloblastic anemia and non-severe aplastic anemia, thyroid dysfunction, hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin, abnormal hemoglobin diseases, the uncertainty of the method are all important causes of abnormal hemoglobin electrophoresis results. In clinical work, the patient's indicators should be comprehensively analyzed to determine the possible cause.

Banana (Musa acuminata) fruits ripening at 30 °C or above fail to develop yellow peels; this phenomenon, called green ripening, greatly reduces their marketability. The regulatory mechanism underpinning high temperature-induced green ripening remains unknown. Here we decoded a transcriptional and post-translational regulatory module that causes green ripening in banana. Banana fruits ripening at 30 °C showed greatly reduced expression of 5 chlorophyll catabolic genes (CCGs), MaNYC1 (NONYELLOW COLORING 1), MaPPH (PHEOPHYTINASE), MaTIC55 (TRANSLOCON AT THE INNER ENVELOPE MEMBRANE OF CHLOROPLASTS 55), MaSGR1 (STAY-GREEN 1), and MaSGR2 (STAY-GREEN 2), compared to those ripening at 20 °C. We identified a MYB transcription factor, MaMYB60, that activated the expression of all 5 CCGs by directly binding to their promoters during banana ripening at 20 °C, while showing a weaker activation at 30 °C. At high temperatures, MaMYB60 was degraded. We discovered a RING-type E3 ligase MaBAH1 (benzoic acid hypersensitive 1) that ubiquitinated MaMYB60 during green ripening and targeted it for proteasomal degradation. MaBAH1 thus facilitated MaMYB60 degradation and attenuated MaMYB60-induced transactivation of CCGs and chlorophyll degradation. By contrast, MaMYB60 upregulation increased CCG expression, accelerated chlorophyll degradation, and mitigated green ripening. Collectively, our findings unravel a dynamic, temperature-responsive MaBAH1-MaMYB60-CCG module that regulates chlorophyll catabolism, and the molecular mechanism underpinning green ripening in banana. This study also advances our understanding of plant responses to high-temperature stress.

China is the largest country in road construction due to rapid economy growth, which results in a large number of exposed slopes. Vegetation restoration of these road slopes has become the dominant method in ecological restoration. We reviewed research progress from three aspects, including key technologies for road slope vegetation restoration, application of vegetation restoration engineering, and factors influencing the vegetation restoration efforts. The slope protection technologies commonly used in road slope vegetation restoration include soil spraying technology, vegetation concrete slope protection technology, thick base material technology, and hydraulic spraying technology. In engineering applications, slope vegetation has the functions such as soil and water conservation, air purification, and landscape restoration. Currently, the most common community configuration is shrub and grass configuration. The main influencing factors of vegetation restoration on road slopes are climate, soil substrate, slope direction, plant species and community configuration used, human factors, and other natural factors (such as hydrology, altitude, microtopography, and wildlife). Future researches should focus on the mechanisms of different factors affecting road slope vegetation restoration, and study ecological substrates and slope protection technologies, plant species and diverse community configuration models suitable for road slope restoration in different climatic regions and site conditions.

Introduction: To analyze the current state, hotspots, and cutting-edge trends of genomics research on the outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) from 2019 to the present (March 2022). Methods: Statistical and visual analysis of COVID-19 genomics results published in the 2019-2022 Web of Science Core Collection Database (WOSCC) was performed using CiteSpace software, including data on countries, institutions, authors, journals, co-citations, keywords, etc. Results: A total of 9133 English literature were included. The number of publications has significantly increased in 2021, and it is expected that this upward trend will last into the future. The research hotspots of COVID-19 revolve around quarantine, biological management, angiotensin-converting enzyme-2, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, etc. Research frontiers and trends focus on molecular docking, messenger RNA, functional receptor, etc. Conclusion: The last two years have seen a significant increase in research interest in the field of novel coronavirus pneumonia genomics.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate gene mutation types of thalassemia in the population of this area and the relationship between hematological phenotype and age in ß-thalassemia. METHODS: 1 351 suspected cases of thalassemia were detected in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College from June 2017 to June 2021. PCR-reverse dot blot hybridization(PCR-RDB) technique was used to detect the common α and ß thalassemia gene types, then the data of MCV, MCH, MCHC and Hb of confirmed cases were collected. The heterozygotes of ß-thalassemia were divided into 0-18 year group, 19-50 year group and >50 year group according to age, and the differences of hematological phenotypes among different groups were compared. RESULTS: Among the detected 1 351 samples, 523(38.71%) cases were diagnosed as thalassemia, 13 genotypes were detected in 260 cases (19.25%) with α-thalassemia; and 12 genotypes were detected in 252 cases (18.65%) with ß-thalassemia; 9 genotypes were detected in 11 cases with αß thalassemia. It was found that MCV and MCH were increased significantly in 0-18 year group, 19-50 year group and >50 year group, MCHC was highest in 0-18 year group, and Hb was the lowest in the >50 year group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: In this area, --SEA/αα was the major genotype of α-thalassemia, and CD41-42 /N and IVS-II-654/N were the major genotypes of ß-thalassemia. Morever, MCV and MCH were the lowest in the 0-18 year old group and the highest in the >50 years old group in heterozygotes of ß-thalassemia. The influence of age on hematological parameters in the primary screening of thalassemia provides a certain reference value in clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Collembola are among the most abundant and integral group in soil decomposers. They channel C and nutrients from basic food resources to higher trophic levels, and therefore play an irreplaceable role in the underground food web. Collembola community would be altered dramatically by increasing N and P deposition. However, we still know little about how Collembola respond to N and P inputs, which will largely retard our steps to understand the ecological functions of collembolans, material circulation and energy flow of the underground food web, and even C cycling in terrestrial ecosystem. The different classification rules for Collembola functional groups have led to poor comparability of research results in the literature. This review proposed three taxonomic criteria of Collembola and four common research means on trophic relationships, summarized the mechanisms underlying the responses of Collembola to N and P addition alone and coadded. Overall, Collembola generally shows a negative response to N addition namely community density decreases, while a positive response to P addition in most ecosystems. The situation was more complicated under the combined N and P application. BACKGROUND: Astragalus (Hedysarum Multijugum Maxim., Huangqi) is a Chinese herbal medicine, and according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Chinese medicinal preparations containing astragalus can be used clinically to treat radiation-induced lung injury (RILI). To systematically review the efficacy and safety of Chinese medicinal preparations containing astragalus in the prevention and treatment of RILI by means of meta-analysis. METHODS: A systematic literature on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of prescriptions containing astragalus in the treatment of RILI by Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, WANFANG Database. The retrieval time is from the establishment of the database to January 18, 2022. Meta-analysis, heterogeneity test and sensitivity analysis were performed on eligible RCTs using Revman 5.4 software and STATA 17.0 software, and a "funnel plot" was used to analyze potential publication bias. RESULTS: A total of 25 RCTs were included, including 1762 patients, and the most widely used drugs were heat-clearing and detoxifying, yin-nourishing and qi-nourishing. The prescriptions containing astragalus can significantly reduce the total incidence of RILI (P < .01), improve the total effective rate and cure rate of RILI (P < .01), improve the quality of life of patients, alleviate breathing difficulties and reduce the expression of inflammatory factors (P < .01), and no adverse reactions related to TCM treatment were reported. CONCLUSION: The traditional Chinese medicinal preparation containing astragalus can effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of RILI, reduce the toxic side effects, and is safe to use in clinic.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common human malignancy with high mortality and dismal prognosis. A growing number of novel targets underlying HCC pathophysiology have been detected using microarray high throughput screening platforms. This study carried out bioinformatics analysis to explore underlying biomarkers in HCC and assessed the potential action of the miR-193b-3p/CDK1 signaling pathway in HCC progression. A total of 241 common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened from GSE33294, GSE104310, and GSE144269. Functional analysis results implicated that DEGs are significantly associated with "cell cycle," "cell division," and "proliferation." The protein-protein interaction network analysis extracted ten hub genes from common DEGs. Ten hub genes were significantly overexpression in HCC tissues. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that 10 hub genes were linked with a poorer prognosis in HCC patients. Functional assays showed that CDK1 knockdown repressed HCC cell proliferation and migration. Luciferase reporter assay showed that miR-193b-3p could target CDK1 3' untranslated region, and miR-193b-3p negatively modulated CDK1. Enforced CDK1 expression attenuated miR-193b-3p-modulated suppressive actions on HCC cell proliferation and migration. To summarize, we performed a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis and identified 10 hub genes linked to the prognosis in HCC patients. Functional analysis revealed that CDK1, negatively regulated by miR-193b-3p, may act as an oncogene to promote HCC cell proliferation and migration and may predict poor prognosis of HCC patients. However, the role of CDK1/miR-193b-3p may still require further investigation.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to understand the characteristics of dietary patterns among children aged 12 to 23 months and discusses the relationship between dietary patterns and the growth of children. METHOD: Cross-sectional data were selected from the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for 0 to 18 year-old children in China ( n = 2,449) to describe the patterns of complementary feeding and the growth of children. Cluster analysis was used to analyze complementary feeding patterns, and an analysis of variance and Bonferroni test were conducted to analyze the relationship between Z scores and complementary feeding patterns. RESULTS: Four dietary patterns were identified among the children via cluster analysis. In Pattern 4 ( n = 104, 4.2%), children still consumed milk as their staple food. They displayed the lowest grain, fruit, vegetable, egg, and flesh foods consumption, a medium frequency of breast milk consumption, and a high frequency of dairy product consumption. Pattern 4 had the lowest length-for-age Z scores and weight-for-age Z scores, with -0.10 ± 1.34 and 0.24 ± 1.00, respectively ( F = 7.940, P < 0.001; F = 5.317, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Although China is undergoing rapid urbanization and economic development, there is still a phenomenon of insufficient intake of protein-rich foods and dairy-based dietary patterns at the stage of complementary food introduced among children aged 12 to 23 months.

The main purpose of the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for children 0-17 years of age in China (CNHSC) was to collect basic data on the nutrition, development, and health status for children in different regions across China using evidence-based, reliable, and cost-effective approaches. Children and their parents or guardians from seven regions (south, southwest, north, northwest, eastern, central, and northeast China) in China were recruited. A multi-stage stratified randomized sampling method was used. Two provinces were randomly sampled from each of the seven regions, from which one urban district and one rural country were also randomly sampled, resulting in a total of 28 survey counties/districts. Dietary surveys, health examinations, laboratory testing, and questionnaires were used to collect dietary intake, nutritional status, child development, and health status information. Nutrition, health, and lifestyle assessment of children and their parents was determined using the Knowledge Attitude Practice (KAP) survey. Greater than 100,000 children (38,000 children < 6 years of age and 66,000 children 6-17 years of age) completed the survey. The survey provided comprehensive data on child nutrition and health status for future studies and will serve as the basis for an integrated nutrition and health improvement strategies proposal for children in China.

Objective: Upper limb (UL) motor function recovery, especially distal function, is one of the main goals of stroke rehabilitation as this function is important to perform activities of daily living (ADL). The efficacy of the motor-imagery brain-computer interface (MI-BCI) has been demonstrated in patients with stroke. Most patients with stroke receive comprehensive rehabilitation, including MI-BCI and routine training. However, most aspects of MI-BCI training for patients with subacute stroke are based on routine training. Risk factors for inadequate distal UL functional recovery in these patients remain unclear; therefore, it is more realistic to explore the prognostic factors of this comprehensive treatment based on clinical practice. The present study aims to investigate the independent risk factors that might lead to inadequate distal UL functional recovery in patients with stroke after comprehensive rehabilitation including MI-BCI (CRIMI-BCI). Methods: This prospective study recruited 82 patients with stroke who underwent CRIMI-BCI. Motor-imagery brain-computer interface training was performed for 60 min per day, 5 days per week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome was improvement of the wrist and hand dimensionality of Fugl-Meyer Assessment (δFMA-WH). According to the improvement score, the patients were classified into the efficient group (EG, δFMA-WH > 2) and the inefficient group (IG, δFMA-WH ≤ 2). Binary logistic regression was used to analyze clinical and demographic data, including aphasia, spasticity of the affected hand [assessed by Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS-H)], initial UL function, age, gender, time since stroke (TSS), lesion hemisphere, and lesion location. Results: Seventy-three patients completed the study. After training, all patients showed significant improvement in FMA-UL (Z = 7.381, p = 0.000**), FMA-SE (Z = 7.336, p = 0.000**), and FMA-WH (Z = 6.568, p = 0.000**). There were 35 patients (47.9%) in the IG group and 38 patients (52.1%) in the EG group. Multivariate analysis revealed that presence of aphasia [odds ratio (OR) 4.617, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.435-14.860; p < 0.05], initial FMA-UL score ≤ 30 (OR 5.158, 95% CI 1.150-23.132; p < 0.05), and MAS-H ≥ level I+ (OR 3.810, 95% CI 1.231-11.790; p < 0.05) were the risk factors for inadequate distal UL functional recovery in patients with stroke after CRIMI-BCI. Conclusion: We concluded that CRIMI-BCI improved UL function in stroke patients with varying effectiveness. Inferior initial UL function, significant hand spasticity, and presence of aphasia were identified as independent risk factors for inadequate distal UL functional recovery in stroke patients after CRIMI-BCI.

The proteolytic degradation of the photodamaged D1 core subunit during the photosystem II (PSII) repair cycle is well understood, but chlorophyll turnover during D1 degradation remains unclear. Here, we report that Arabidopsis thaliana CHLOROPHYLLASE 1 (CLH1) plays important roles in the PSII repair process. The abundance of CLH1 and CLH2 peaks in young leaves and is induced by high-light exposure. Seedlings of clh1 single and clh1-1/2-2 double mutants display increased photoinhibition after long-term high-light exposure, whereas seedlings overexpressing CLH1 have enhanced light tolerance compared with the wild type. CLH1 is localized in the developing chloroplasts of young leaves and associates with the PSII-dismantling complexes RCC1 and RC47, with a preference for the latter upon exposure to high light. Furthermore, degradation of damaged D1 protein is retarded in young clh1-1/2-2 leaves after 18-h high-light exposure but is rescued by the addition of recombinant CLH1 in vitro. Moreover, overexpression of CLH1 in a variegated mutant (var2-2) that lacks thylakoid protease FtsH2, with which CLH1 interacts, suppresses the variegation and restores D1 degradation. A var2-2 clh1-1/2-2 triple mutant shows more severe variegation and seedling death. Taken together, these results establish CLH1 as a long-sought chlorophyll dephytylation enzyme that is involved in PSII repair and functions in long-term adaptation of young leaves to high-light exposure by facilitating FtsH-mediated D1 degradation.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the impact of rehabilitation robot training (RRT) on upper limb motor function and daily activity ability in patients with stroke. METHODS: Forty patients meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into the treatment group (TRE) and the control group (CON). Group TRE was trained with an upper limb rehabilitation robot and group CON was trained with traditional occupational therapy. The training time was six weeks, and the upper limb function and daily activities were then assessed. RESULTS: (1) There was no statistical significance in the Fugl-Meyer (FM) score, Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT) score, and Modified Barthel Index (MBI) score between the two groups before treatment (P > 0.05). (2) After treatment, the FM score, WMFT score, and MBI score were significantly higher than before treatment (P < 0.01). (3) There was no significant significance between the two groups after treatment (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Both RRT and traditional occupational therapy training are useful for the recovery of upper limb motor function and daily life ability in the sub-acute stage of stroke.
